President Biden's Lesion Confirmed as Basal Cell Carcinoma

President Joe Biden underwent a biopsy last month that confirmed a potential cancerous lesion on the president's chest to be basal cell carcinoma, a common but serious form of skin cancer. The biopsy took place the same day as his annual physical and the area of biopsy has since “healed nicely” according to Chief Medical Adviser Dr. Kevin O'Connor.

Basal cell carcinoma has been known to rarely spread or metastasize, unlike melanomas and squamous cell carcinomas. However, though this type of skin cancer is one of the least dangerous, it should still be taken seriously in order to prevent a worse situation in the future.

In addition to President Biden, the First Lady Dr. Jill Biden has also recently grappled with skin cancer; a lesion was removed from her right eye earlier in the year, as well past presidents have experienced
