Will Las Vegas Continue to Experience Flash Flooding This Weekend?

Las Vegas is facing the threat of flash flooding this weekend as fast-moving thunderstorms hit the region. On Friday, heavy rain caused flash flooding along parts of the Las Vegas Strip, with at least one driver needing to be rescued from a car. The National Weather Service reported that Boulder City, about 26 miles southeast of Las Vegas, received 1.14 inches of rain, while over an inch of rain fell near Interstate 15 at Charleston Boulevard. A flash flood warning is in effect for the area until Saturday night.

The thunderstorms are part of the region's monsoon season, which typically lasts from June to mid-September. The Weather Service has warned of the potential for dangerous lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rain throughout the weekend. Some areas could see 1 to 2 inches of rain, with the heaviest rainfall expected on Friday and Saturday.

The recent storms come just a week after another round of storms caused flooding on the Las Vegas Strip, damaging at least one resort. As clean-up efforts continue in areas already impacted by the storms, lightning could further delay the recovery process.

Overall, the city of Las Vegas is urging residents to exercise caution, avoiding flooded areas and flood channels. The National Weather Service plans to issue a flash flood warning for the region by Thursday evening to keep residents and visitors informed of the potential risks.
