Berlin Investigates Suspected Attempted Murder of Exiled Russian Journalist

Germany has launched an investigation into the suspected attempted murder of a Russian journalist based in Berlin. Elena Kostyuchenko, known for exposing Russian war crimes in Ukraine, fell ill while on a train journey from Munich to Berlin last October. She experienced symptoms consistent with poisoning, including extreme disorientation, abdominal pain, and swollen extremities. Kostyuchenko had left Ukraine after being warned that Chechen units at Russian checkpoints had been ordered to kill her. The journalist had worked for the Nobel Prize-winning Novaya Gazeta newspaper until it was forced to close due to Moscow's crackdown on information. Berlin's investigation comes amid growing concerns over Russian government targeting and crackdown on dissidents.
