Last Saturday, authorities confirmed there were no injuries and no public health risk associated with the derailment of a Norfolk Southern cargo train between Dayton and Columbus, Ohio. The southbound train of 212 cars derailed near a business park and the county fairgrounds at approximately 4:45 pm. Four tankers and 24 other cars fell off the tracks during the incident.
The Clark County Hazmat team, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and a crew from Norfolk Southern each examined the crash site, determining there was no evidence of a spillage. The shelter-in-place alert was lifted as the train did not contain any hazardous materials. Possible materials that were aboard the train included liquid propane and ethanol, but luckily, these substances were not spilled.
