Did the Tuohy Family Profit Off Michael Oher's Life Story Without His Consent?

Former NFL player Michael Oher, whose life story was depicted in the movie "The Blind Side," has filed a petition alleging that he was never formally adopted by the Tuohy family. Oher claims that the family tricked him into signing a document making them his conservators, which allowed them to make business deals using his name and story. The petition states that the Tuohys profited off the movie by receiving millions in royalties, while Oher received nothing. Oher is now asking the court to release him from the conservatorship and to issue an injunction preventing the Tuohys from using his name and likeness. He also requests an accounting of the money the family earned and seeks restitution, compensatory, and punitive damages. If Oher had been formally adopted, he would have retained control over his finances. The Tuohy family, however, claims that they only received a flat fee for the movie and shared the earnings with Oher. It remains to be seen how the court will respond to Oher's allegations.
