Colorado Springs Man Pleads Guilty to Attempted Espionage in Sale of US Secrets

Jareh Dalke, a former National Security Agency (NSA) employee, has pleaded guilty to six counts of attempted espionage after being caught trying to sell classified documents to someone he believed was a Russian agent. However, the individual was actually an undercover FBI agent. Dalke, a 31-year-old Army veteran, initially made contact with the supposed foreign agent in late July and proceeded to use an encrypted email account to send excerpts of three classified documents to prove their authenticity. The documents included information on U.S. cyber operations and foreign targeting of U.S. systems, with two of the excerpts classified at the Top Secret level. Dalke requested $85,000 for additional information and planned to meet the "foreign agent" in Denver, where he was promptly arrested by the FBI. Dalke will be sentenced in April 2024 and could face up to 21 years and 10 months in prison.
