Authorities have arrested Daria Trepova, a St. Petersburg resident, suspected of murdering pro-Kremlin "war correspondent" Vladlen Tatarsky. Investigator sources have revealed that there are reasons to believe that Trepova brought a box containing a plaster bust of Tatarsky to a cafe where the journalist was speaking, with the bust supposedly containing an explosive device. The arrest of Daria Trepova has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
On April 2, 2023, an explosion tore through a cafe in St. Petersburg. Vladlen Tatarsky, the well-known blogger and supporter of the war in Ukraine, was killed in the blast, which also injured 30 people, with 24 currently hospitalized. The Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation into Tatarsky's murder, as well as public endangerment.
It was reported by Russian media that Tatarsky was meeting with members of the public when a woman presented him with a gift box containing the supposed plaster bust, which then exploded. Witnesses reported people running in a panic, with some injured by shattered glass and covered in blood.
Darya Trepova, who participated in anti-war rallies in the past, has been accused of involvement in the bombing.
