Did India's Chandrayaan-3 Successfully Land on the Moon?

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced the successful landing of its Chandrayaan-3 Lander Module on the surface of the Moon's southern polar region. The historic landing took place on August 23, 2023, as planned. Chandrayaan-3 was launched on July 14, 2023, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota Range, India, with the goal of achieving India's first soft landing on another celestial body and demonstrating new technologies.

In addition to ISRO's efforts, the European Space Agency (ESA) provided deep space communication support to the mission. ESA's ground stations in Kourou, French Guiana, and Goonhilly Earth Station in the UK complemented the support from NASA's Deep Space Network and ISRO's own stations. ESA's 35-meter antenna in New Norcia, Australia, served as a backup for ISRO's ground station during the landing, providing vital telemetry to confirm the success of the landing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was attending the BRICS Summit in South Africa, virtually witnessed the historic landing attempt. People from across India and the world offered prayers and wishes for the successful completion of the mission. With this achievement, India becomes the fourth country to land on the moon, following the United States, Russia, and China, and the first to land on the lunar south pole.
