A newly released self-published book has claimed that former Maryland Governor, Larry Hogan, orchestrated the federal prosecution of his former chief of staff, Roy McGrath. McGrath is currently wanted on federal fraud and theft charges following allegations that he misled Maryland Environmental Service officials. The book, “Betrayed: The True Story of Roy McGrath,” paints McGrath as the victim of a political hit job, orchestrated by Hogan to avoid political backlash from his own decision to underpay McGrath. The book also claims that Hogan used a cryptic messaging app, Wickr, to contact McGrath, but Hogan’s representatives deny this.
McGrath was scheduled to appear for a federal trial, but has remained a fugitive following his failure to appear at his court date. Federal agents, along with the FBI, have recently doubled their reward for information leading to his arrest to $20,000. However, things took a tragic turn recently when McGrath was killed in a confrontation with the FBI in Knoxville, Tennessee, resulting in a statement from his attorney stating that McGrath never wavered on his innocence. Details about McGrath’s alleged crime and his final moments remain the subject of ongoing investigation.
