Tracking Severe Weather Threats in Southeast Michigan: Are Tornadoes, High Winds, and Hail on the Way?

Severe storms are expected to hit Southeast Michigan tonight, bringing with them the potential for tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Wayne County until 8 p.m. Friday and a thunderstorm watch for several counties in the area until 1 a.m. Friday. The watch includes 12 counties: Genesee, Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne. The storms are expected to develop rapidly and move through Metro Detroit between 7 p.m. and midnight. Some storms could contain wind gusts up to 70 mph and large hail. There is also a possibility of isolated tornadoes. Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions. A severe thunderstorm watch has also been issued for West Michigan until 1 a.m. Friday, with the potential for damaging wind gusts of 60 mph or more.
