Witness Rare Sturgeon Super Blue Moon in Goa on August 31, 2023

On August 31, 2023, residents and visitors in Goa will have the rare opportunity to witness the Sturgeon Super Blue Moon. This celestial event will be 14 percent bigger and brighter than the usual full moon, making it the biggest and brightest full moon of the year. The Sturgeon Super Blue Moon is the third and final supermoon of the year, following two others that occurred in July and August.

Observation sessions will be held at various locations in Goa, including the Public Astronomical Observatory at Panjim, Vidhya Prabhodini High School in Porvorim, and Ravindra Bhavan in Margao. These sessions are open to the general public and free of charge.

Attendees can expect to witness the Sturgeon Super Blue Moon in its full glory, as it will appear in proximity to the star Altair, or Shravan Nakshatra, in the constellation of Aquila. The moon will be at its perigee point in its orbit when it rises, resulting in a larger and brighter appearance.
