Is Southeast Michigan Facing Severe Thunderstorms and Flooding?

Southeast Michigan is under the threat of severe weather as a line of storms is expected to move through the area. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Wayne County until 8 p.m. Friday and a thunderstorm watch for several counties in Southeast Michigan until 1 a.m. Friday. The main threats from these storms include damaging winds gusting up to 70 mph, large hail, and heavy rain, which could worsen existing flooding.

These storms are expected to rapidly develop and move through parts of Metro Detroit between 7 p.m. and 12 a.m. There is also a possibility of isolated tornadoes. The increased risk area stretches from Flint to the north, down to the southeast corner of the state near Monroe, then all the way west into Kent County, including major cities like Ann Arbor, Lansing, Jackson, and Detroit.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather alerts and warnings and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
