Families of the 41 construction workers trapped in the collapsed tunnel in Uttarkashi are facing an agonizing wait as the rescue operation is delayed due to a broken drilling machine. Among those waiting are Chaudhary, who has been at the tunnel site for the past 11 days after traveling almost 600km (372 miles) from his village in Uttar Pradesh to be closer to his son. Chaudhary, who lost his eldest son in a construction accident two years ago, prays that his son will be rescued safely.
Meanwhile, medical experts and doctors are working with the families outside the tunnel, providing counseling and coaching on communication. They are advising the families on what to say and what not to say to their trapped loved ones, encouraging them to maintain hope and avoid emotional conversations that might break the workers' stoicism.
As the days pass, the trapped workers are growing restless and despondent. The doctors and officials on site are doing their best to provide motivation and support, not only to the workers but also to their families, who anxiously wait for any positive news. In addition to mental fortitude, the workers are also receiving lessons on hygiene.
The rescue operation continues, and officials assure that the trapped workers are in good health as they receive regular food deliveries through a small pipe.
