A massive landslide occurred late Monday night in Alaska, covering three homes and leaving at least one person dead with three more missing as of late Tuesday. The slide, estimated to be about 450 feet wide, occurred near the remote community of Wrangell. First responders arrived at the scene soon after the slide was reported. An adult female was rescued and a deceased juvenile female was found during the initial search. The search for the missing individuals continued on Tuesday via air and water. Local and state rescue teams, along with the Department of Transportation, provided assistance in the ongoing search and rescue operation. The troopers do not have information on the survivability of someone trapped under a landslide of this size, but the search is still considered active. Weather conditions suggest a survivability of about six hours in the water. Evacuations have taken place between 11-Mile and 13-Mile, and facilities have been offered to the evacuees.
