With the 2023 NFL Draft set to take place, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette makes a case for defensive end, Lukas Van Ness, as a potential fit for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although Fittipaldo acknowledges the need for a cornerback or offensive tackle, he argues that defensive end is a top-three need for the team. He suggests that Van Ness is a potential candidate for the role, citing his talent and prototypical five-technique qualities. Van Ness, who played both inside and on the edge at Iowa, has a tweener body, but Fittipaldo believes that he would be a good fit at defensive end once he adds 10-15 pounds over a year or so. While projecting bodily transformation always comes with some risk, Fittipaldo sees potential in Van Ness and believes he could be a good fit for the Steelers if available on the board at pick 17.
