The Masters Par 3 Contest tradition will continue at Augusta National Golf Club with play beginning at noon ET on Wednesday, April 5. The event, which began in 1960, features a single round of golf on a nine-hole course, par-27 and ranging from 70-140 yards. Sam Snead won the first event and sparked the enthusiasm of golfers in the contest. The event airs on ESPN from 3-5 p.m. ET and Masters.com and the Masters app from 12-5 p.m. ET. The reigning champions of the 2022 Par 3 contest, Canadian golfers Mike Weir and Mackenzie Hughes, finished tied at 4-under, while Tradition states that it is bad luck to win the Par 3 contest because no player who has won it has gone on to win the Masters in the same year. The 2023 Masters Tournament will run from Thursday through Sunday.
