A winter weather advisory has been issued for southeastern areas, including Benton, Buchanan, Cedar, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Linn, Tama, and Washington counties. However, snowfall and slippery conditions have been reported outside of the advisory areas as well, so drivers are urged to be cautious.
Snowfall is expected to start overnight and intensify after midnight through early Sunday morning. The southeastern areas are likely to experience the heaviest snowfall, with totals ranging from 2-3 inches. North of that line, snow totals will range from a trace to 2 inches. Snowfall is expected to continue until around noon on Sunday, with some light flakes possible until the afternoon.
Wind speeds will increase in the afternoon, reaching 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Blowing snow is not expected to be a major issue due to the wet and heavy snow, but caution is still advised. Sunday night will see clearing skies and colder temperatures, with lows in the mid-teens.
Monday will be cold and breezy, with highs in the upper 20s and low 30s. Overall, most areas can expect to receive 1-2 inches of snow from this system. Stay updated with the latest weather alerts and download the 27 StormTrack weather app for mobile weather alerts.
