As the 2023 NASCAR regular season comes to a close, the battle for the regular season championship heats up. While Martin Truex Jr. currently leads the standings, another driver, William Byron, is looking to make a late surge for the title.

Byron, who drives for Hendrick Motorsports, currently sits in third place in the standings, 76 points behind Truex Jr. With 60 points up for grabs in the regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway, it is mathematically impossible for Byron to clinch the regular season title.

However, if Byron is unable to secure the championship, there are other drivers in contention. One of the most realistic options is Byron's teammate, Denny Hamlin, who is 39 points behind Truex Jr. Hamlin would need to win the final stage and hope that Truex Jr. doesn't score more than one point. Winning all three stages would give Hamlin a 19-point cushion.

With the regular season championship on the line, the final race at Daytona promises to be a thrilling battle. Can William Byron or another driver overcome the points deficit and secure the title? Only time will tell.
