Irish Rally Driver Craig Breen Dies in Pre-Event Test Accident in Croatia at Age 33

Craig Breen, a talented Irish driver for Hyundai's World Rally Championship team, lost his life during a pre-event testing for the 2023 Croatia Rally. According to Croatian police, the accident occurred just after midday local time, in the northern town of Zlatar, when Breen's car slipped off the road and hit a wooden pole. The 33-year-old driver was killed instantly, and his co-driver, James Fulton, survived unscathed. Breen, who had 82 career rallies, was working with Hyundai's team for the first season of WRC in 2023. He'd previously raced for competing teams, winning 30 stages and nine podium finishes over the years. In 2011, Breen became the first WRC Academy Cup winner, and his successful career included numerous top finishes before his life was tragically cut short. Breen's father, Ray Breen, was also a rallying legend in Ireland. He joins the ranks of respected drivers who have lost their lives in the dangerous world of professional rally racing.
