"Community Gathers for Vigil in Honor of Murdered Toddler"

A crowd of Detroiters came together on Erwin Street to honor the memory of Wynter Cole-Smith, a 2-year-old girl who was found dead earlier this week. The toddler had gone missing on Sunday, and it was later discovered that her mother's ex-boyfriend, Rashad Maleek Trice, had kidnapped her and allegedly strangled her with a cellphone cord. Trice has been charged with kidnapping and numerous other offenses in relation to the assault of Wynter's mother. The mourners at the vigil chanted "We will do better," as they made a promise to remember Wynter and take action to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Wynter's family created a memorial for her, consisting of a large wooden cross, stuffed animals, and candles. The event was the second vigil held for Wynter, with a third planned for the Lansing State Capitol on Saturday. The family expressed their gratitude for the support, and Wynter's grandmother declared that they trust that Trice will get what he deserves. Meanwhile, the investigation into Wynter's death continues, with medical examiners yet to determine an official cause of death.
