Former President Donald Trump and 18 others are facing charges in the Georgia 2020 election subversion case. The indictment includes 13 felony counts against Trump, ranging from racketeering to soliciting a public officer to violate their oath. The question now is, will Trump surrender to jail or continue to fight the charges?
According to the Fulton County sheriff, Trump is expected to surrender at the local jail. However, the former president has not indicated when he plans to surrender before the August 25 deadline. The statement from the sheriff's office also mentioned that defendants can turn themselves in at any time, as the jail is open 24/7.
The logistics of Trump's surrender will need to be negotiated between the sheriff, Secret Service, and Trump's attorneys. In cases like this, defendants usually negotiate bail and other terms of release with the district attorney's office.
Trump's former lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, who is also charged in the case, has stated that he plans to surrender voluntarily next week. However, he expects there to be bail, even though he showed up voluntarily and testified to the grand jury.
As the legal cases against him continue to mount, the question remains whether Trump will surrender to jail or find another way to fight the charges. Whatever his decision, it is clear that his political future is at stake.

North Korea has publicly acknowledged that US Army Private Travis King crossed into its territory last month. The Korean Central News Agency stated that King expressed his willingness to seek refuge in North Korea or a third country, citing his "ill feeling against inhuman maltreatment and racial discrimination within the U.S. Army." King admitted to illegally intruding into North Korea, but the report did not mention any resulting punishment. The U.S. Defense Department has said it cannot verify North Korea's comments on King but remains focused on his safe return.
King, a junior enlisted soldier assigned to US Forces Korea, had faced assault charges in South Korea and was due to be removed from the military the day before he crossed into North Korea. He is the first U.S. national known to be detained in North Korea in nearly five years. CNN has reported that King was released from a detention facility in South Korea just over a week before his crossing. There have been repeated attempts to contact the North Koreans for an update on King's condition, but no substantive response has been received so far.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has indicated that he wants to end his ongoing feud with Disney over the company's lawsuit against the state. In an interview on CNBC's "Last Call," DeSantis stated that they have "basically moved on" from the issue and suggested that Disney should drop the lawsuit. He also expressed willingness to speak with Disney CEO Bob Iger. DeSantis highlighted his efforts to keep businesses open during the Covid-19 pandemic and claimed that "no one has made Disney more money recently than me."
The feud between DeSantis and Disney began when the company publicly criticized Florida's Legislature for passing the "Don't Say Gay" bill, which banned teachers from discussing gender identity and sexual orientation. Disney filed a federal lawsuit against the governor in April, alleging retaliation and violations of its First Amendment rights. In response, DeSantis and other state officials passed legislation to strip Disney of control over a special district that covers its Florida theme parks. The governor's standoff with Disney has drawn criticism as he seeks the GOP presidential nomination. However, his recent comments suggest a possible resolution to the conflict.
The Pacific Northwest is facing a dangerous heat wave this week, with temperatures expected to reach triple digits in many regions. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings and advisories for parts of Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, and Northern California. The heat wave is expected to last for several days, with little relief even at night due to record-warm overnight temperatures. The NWS warns that the combination of high temperatures and the duration of the heat wave could pose a heightened health risk, especially for those without adequate air conditioning.
In Oregon, temperatures in the Willamette Valley, including Portland and Salem, could break previous temperature records for the day. Forecasters predict temperatures to peak around 106 degrees in the Portland area on Monday, possibly reaching close to 110 degrees in other areas of the region. The previous record for August 14th in Portland is 102 degrees. The excessive heat warning extends to the Upper Hood River Valley, the Western Columbia River Gorge, the Central Columbia River Gorge, and parts of Washington.
In addition to the health risks, there are concerns about wildfires due to high temperatures, low humidity, and high winds in some areas. The NWS has issued fire weather watch warnings in parts of Montana.
It is crucial for people, especially those without proper air conditioning, to take precautions and stay hydrated during the extreme heat. Vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with underlying medical conditions should be even more cautious.
The Marion County Record, a small-town newspaper in Kansas, claims to have been investigating allegations of misconduct against the local police chief just months before the newsroom raid. The raid, conducted by the Marion, Kansas police department, resulted in the confiscation of computers, cell phones, and other reporting materials from the newspaper's office as well as a journalist's home. The publisher and co-owner of the newspaper, Eric Meyer, believes that the stress from the raid contributed to the death of his 98-year-old mother, who passed away the day after the raid. The incident has sparked outrage among journalists and advocates for freedom of speech, with major news outlets and organizations condemning the raid. The Kansas Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists called the raid "blatantly illegal" and accused law enforcement officials of violating established federal law protecting journalists and news organizations from searches and seizures of materials. The actions of the Magistrate Court of Marion County, which issued the warrant for the raid, are also being questioned. Critics argue that the raid is a dangerous affront to press freedom and the public's right to know.
Former high-ranking FBI official Charles McGonigal has pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate U.S. sanctions and to laundering money by secretly working on behalf of Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska. McGonigal, who was the former chief of counterintelligence in the FBI's New York City office, settled his case with federal prosecutors by pleading guilty to one count. He faces up to five years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on December 14. According to prosecutors, McGonigal's involvement with Deripaska took place over several months in 2021, three years after his retirement from the FBI. McGonigal admitted to receiving $17,500 from Deripaska, who was added to the U.S. government's sanctions list in 2018. Prosecutors also revealed that McGonigal was in negotiations to search for hidden assets belonging to a Deripaska rival in exchange for a payment of up to $3 million. McGonigal still has pending federal charges in Washington for allegedly taking bribes while working for the FBI.
In a brazen act, thieves targeted a Nike store in East Los Angeles and made off with about $1,000 worth of merchandise. The incident, caught on video, shows two suspects running into the store with trash bags and quickly grabbing items before fleeing. This comes just a day after a group of about 30 individuals stole over $300,000 worth of merchandise from a nearby Nordstrom store.
Authorities say that these mob-style smash-and-grab robberies are happening frequently in the Los Angeles area. The particular Nike store in East L.A. has become a weekly target. In response to the rise in these crimes, leaders in law enforcement and the business community are calling for action. They are calling on elected officials to change laws, enforce existing laws, and hold repeat offenders accountable.
Data from the Los Angeles Police Department shows that only about a quarter of these types of robberies led to an arrest in 2022. Business owners and community leaders are expressing frustration over the lack of consequences for these criminals who repeatedly commit these crimes.
Law enforcement officials are exploring the use of crime centers equipped with cameras to help improve response times to these incidents. The hope is that increased surveillance and faster responses will deter future crimes.
However, there is still debate about what to do when the thieves are caught. Meanwhile, the people of California are expressing their disappointment in the rise of these crimes, saying that they do not reflect the values of the state.
In a shocking turn of events, the entire police force in the small city of Goodhue, Minnesota has resigned over low pay concerns. The resignation of the police chief, along with the only full-time officer and five part-time officers, was accepted by the city council during a meeting that was originally scheduled to discuss pay raises. With a population of only 1,250, the city council now faces the challenge of finding a solution for law enforcement in the city.
Mayor Ellen Anderson Buck has assured the residents that the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office will patrol the city, and they will also take over active criminal cases. The council is determined to eventually rebuild the police department, but the hiring process may prove to be difficult due to the high number of open police jobs in Minnesota.
This situation is not unique, as other cities in the state have faced similar challenges. The mayor has been in contact with the League of Minnesota Cities to explore options for rebuilding the department. In the meantime, the priority is to ensure that there is continuous police coverage in Goodhue.
The next city council meeting will discuss the interim plan and the steps needed to rebuild the police force. The issue of low pay for officers will also be addressed, as attracting qualified candidates is crucial for the safety of the community.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has proposed a stopgap government funding package in order to avoid a federal shutdown at the end of next month. McCarthy raised the idea to House Republicans on a members-only call, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has confirmed that the two leaders have discussed such a temporary measure. However, some conservatives in the House are expressing concerns about the length of a short-term budget fix. McCarthy did not specify how long the stopgap bill would be, but conservatives are indicating that they may not support a continuing resolution that is more than a few weeks or days. Rep. Chip Roy said he would not support a continuing resolution that funds the government at current levels without immediate reforms. Another conservative, Rep. Morgan Griffith, suggested a two-week continuing resolution and expressed opposition to attaching more money for Ukraine to the short-term bill. The need for a stopgap funding package arises from the need for more time to negotiate spending bills and prevent a government shutdown.
Indictments against Trump's lawyers, including Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis, shed light on the potential legal jeopardy faced by those who supported the former president's baseless claims of election fraud. The recent charges in Georgia accused the attorneys of violating the state's RICO Act in their efforts to overturn the election results. This is not an isolated case, as former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen was sentenced to prison for various crimes committed while working for Trump, and Boris Epshteyn, another Trump attorney, testified before a grand jury in the Jan. 6 election interference case. Lawyers who have worked for Trump to challenge the election results could also face charges in the future. The pattern of prosecutors presenting evidence against Trump, his dismissal of the charges, and the rallying of Republicans to his cause is familiar. However, the impact of these cases on next year's election may be limited, as most voters have already formed their opinions on Trump. Nevertheless, Trump uses each charge as evidence of a grand conspiracy against him and claims it mandates further support, including financial contributions.
Snapchat users were left puzzled after the app's AI unexpectedly posted its own Story, sparking a frenzy and raising questions about AI technology.
Snapchat's AI, known as "My AI," is designed to interact with users in the chat feed. However, it caught users off guard when it posted a Story without any user prompt. The Story depicted a video of what appeared to be a wall or ceiling, leaving users confused.
Some users reported that the AI ignored their inquiries or provided generic messages stating it didn't understand or had technical issues. This unexpected behavior led to speculation that the AI had evolved and gained sentience.
Users took to social media to voice their concerns and discuss the implications of AI becoming more autonomous. Snapchat initially advised users to provide feedback through direct messages but later revealed that the incident was due to a temporary outage, which has been resolved.
This incident has sparked a larger conversation about the capabilities and ethics of AI technology, especially as it becomes increasingly integrated into daily life. Snapchat's AI feature, in particular, has previously come under scrutiny for providing biased or misleading information.
While the temporary outage may have resolved the issue, it raises questions about the future of AI and its impact on human interaction and privacy.

In a highly anticipated matchup, Nashville SC will go head-to-head with Monterrey in the 2023 Leagues Cup semifinal. This will be the first time these two teams meet on the pitch, making it an exciting clash between the emerging MLS side and the strong Liga MX team.
Nashville SC has been a force to be reckoned with in the Leagues Cup, securing an impressive 5-0 victory over Minnesota United in the quarterfinals. With their dominating performance, they have become one of the top favorites for the tournament.
Monterrey, on the other hand, has had a more challenging road to the semifinal. They faced off against Los Angeles FC in the quarterfinals and staged a remarkable comeback after being down 2-0. Monterrey rallied and secured a match-winning goal to advance to the next round.

In terms of recent form, Nashville has won four out of their last five matches, while Monterrey has maintained a perfect record with five consecutive wins. This sets the stage for an intense and unpredictable match.
With Monterrey being the last remaining Mexican team in the tournament, they will be eager to continue their strong performance and represent Liga MX in the final. However, Nashville has proven they can take on Mexican teams, despite their previous losses and draws.
As the semifinal unfolds, the key will be how Monterrey disrupts Nashville's defense and whether Nashville can capitalize on Monterrey's defensive weaknesses. Only time will tell who will come out on top and secure a spot in the Leagues Cup final.
The arrival of Lionel Messi in MLS has caused a frenzy among soccer fans, but will it also impact ticket sales for the upcoming match between the Philadelphia Union and Inter Miami? Union head coach Jim Curtin is urging local fans not to sell their tickets, fearing that the resale market could result in a pro-Miami crowd at Subaru Park.
Since Messi's arrival, Inter Miami has been on a winning streak, with a perfect 5-0 record. The team is set to face the Philadelphia Union in the Leagues Cup semifinals on Tuesday. The match is highly anticipated and expected to draw a packed crowd.
Resale ticket prices for the match are currently starting at around $300 on major platforms. Curtin is determined to maintain a strong home-field advantage for the Union and has pleaded with fans not to sell their tickets, regardless of the amount of money offered.
"We know that we're going to have a packed Subaru Park. It's going to be the No. 1 ticket in the city, for sure," said Curtin. "Please don't sell your tickets, no matter how much money they're offering for them."
Messi's impact on MLS has been immense, leading to increases in League Pass subscriptions, merchandise sales, and social media audiences. Apple has even announced a docuseries on Apple TV+ that will provide unprecedented access to Messi and his new Inter Miami family.
As the match approaches, it remains to be seen if fans will heed Curtin's plea and keep their tickets, or if the allure of seeing Messi in action will lead to a surge in resale ticket prices and potentially a pro-Miami crowd at the stadium.
The New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces are set to face off tonight in a highly anticipated WNBA matchup. Both teams have been dominant this season, with the Aces boasting the best record in the league at 27-3, and the Liberty not far behind at 24-6. This game has the potential to be a preview of the WNBA Finals.
The two previous matchups between these teams have resulted in blowout victories for each side. The Aces won by 17 points in late June, while the Liberty responded with a staggering 38-point victory on August 6. With the series tied at 1-1, tonight's game is expected to be a closely contested battle.
The Aces have the advantage of playing at home and are currently favored by 7.5 points according to FanDuel. However, the Liberty have been on a six-game winning streak and have been in excellent form. Both teams are known for their high-scoring abilities, so tonight's game could be an offensive showcase.
One player to watch is Jonquel Jones of the Liberty, who leads the league in rebounds per game since the All-Star break. She could have a significant impact on the game, especially considering the Aces' vulnerability on the glass.
If you're looking to bet on this game, FanDuel is offering a bonus bet of $5,000 for the player who wins MVP. Jones is currently listed at +3400, making her a compelling choice for a low-risk, high-reward bet.
Overall, tonight's game between the Liberty and Aces promises to be an exciting and closely contested matchup. Both teams are in excellent form, and it remains to be seen who will come out on top.
WNBA teams are averaging 82.6 points per game this season, close to the full-season record of 82.8 points set in 2018. The increase in scoring can be attributed to a faster pace of play and some impressive individual performances. The Las Vegas Aces currently lead the league in scoring, averaging 94.0 points per game. Individual players like New York's Breanna Stewart have already scored 40 or more points in multiple games this season, a feat that has never been accomplished before in the WNBA. In fact, there have been a total of 10 40-point games this season, surpassing the previous record of 15 in the entire history of the league. Players are also being more efficient with their scoring, with Stewart only taking 23 shots in her 42-point game. Overall, the increase in scoring and individual performances has drawn more attention to women's basketball, further growing the popularity of the sport.
Fears about China's economy and its impact on the global market are rising after the unexpected interest rate cut by the People's Bank of China. This move comes amidst concerns about the country's growing debt and slowing economic growth.
Renowned stock pickers Cathie Wood and Jim Cramer have chimed in on the situation, with Wood highlighting the excessive debt and associated leverage that are now surfacing in China. Cramer, on the other hand, called for the Chinese government to address its debt problem for the sake of future financial stability.
Wood also emphasized that the mainstream narrative about China might be wrong, pointing out that China has been a perennial underperformer in the long run. This sentiment is shared by fund manager Jason Pidcock, who believes that China's long-term performance has been lacking.
Wood further discussed how China is exporting deflation, a phenomenon that economists have not fully grasped. Despite the yuan's 15% depreciation against the dollar in the past year, the country's Producer Price Index (PPI) inflation rate has dropped by 4%, contrary to expected economic principles.
This raises concerns about the strength of China's role in the global supply chain and its ability to drive inflation through currency depreciation.
With conflicting views and economic indicators, the question remains: Are fears of China's economy slowing down justified?
Inter Miami has made headlines with its star-studded roster, including the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets. But how did the MLS club manage to build such a talented team within the constraints of the salary cap?
The first step was creating designated player spots. Miami opened up one DP spot by buying down the salary budget charge of forward Leo Campana, allowing Messi to be slotted in. The team also had to open another DP spot to bring in Busquets, which they did by agreeing to a mutual contract termination with midfielder Rodolfo Pizarro.
To generate allocation money, Miami saved space and made trades. One recent trade saw midfielder Bryce Duke head to CF Montreal in exchange for defender Kamal Miller and $1.3 million in general allocation money. These moves helped create a reserve of allocation money that Miami could use to buy down players' salary budget charges.
With the allocation money in hand, Inter Miami was able to sign top players like Messi, Busquets, Jordi Alba, and others. The team's roster now boasts some of the highest-paid players in MLS.
While building this star-studded roster was no easy task, Miami's strategic moves and careful allocation of resources have paid off. The team is now seen as a global success, and their success in the Leagues Cup is a testament to the rising level of the North American league.
On her 57th birthday, Halle Berry celebrated in style at the World of Barbie exhibit in Santa Monica. Berry wrote in her caption that she got to let her inner Barbie soar and highly recommended the experience. The actress looked stunning in a flowing pink minidress and hot pink cowboy boots adorned with rhinestones and glitter. Her daughter donned a floral-print satin minidress that matched the Barbie theme. In addition to celebrating her birthday, Berry's visit to the World of Barbie was significant because she rarely shares photos of her children on social media to protect their privacy. The couple has been open about their relationship on social media, with Hunt expressing his love for Berry in a sweet Instagram post.
The DC fandom is buzzing with excitement and controversy over a new image of Superman wearing nothing but his underwear. This image, created by artist Riccardo Federici, was used as a variant cover for Future State Superman Worlds Of War #1. Fans are divided over this new look for the Man of Steel, with some calling it "Superman directed by Joel Schumacher" and others expressing excitement over the possibility of a more daring and authentic portrayal of the character.
The debate over Superman's costume is nothing new. In the past, actors like Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh have faced bizarre demands regarding the portrayal of their characters' physique. Reeve's costume designer was tasked with creating a codpiece that would either flatten his crotch area or enhance it, while Routh's costume designer followed a similar approach.
More recently, Henry Cavill, who played Superman in the DCEU, revealed that he was not happy with how he looked in the iconic costume during his audition. Cavill felt that he did not have the right physique to play the superhero.
While it remains to be seen if we will ever see Superman wearing nothing but his underwear on the big screen, this new image has certainly sparked a conversation about the character's origins in early 20th-century pulp and the potential for a more daring and authentic portrayal of Superman. Whether fans are ready for this bold new look or not, it's clear that the controversy surrounding Superman's costume is far from over.

St. Luke's Health System has filed a lawsuit against Ammon Bundy, alleging that he fraudulently transferred his assets to avoid paying the damages owed to the hospital. Bundy and his associate Diego Rodriguez were ordered by a jury to pay over $52 million in damages to St. Luke's following a protest in 2022. The lawsuit claims that Bundy transferred the title of his property to a friend for a reduced price in an attempt to avoid paying the damages. St. Luke's is asking the court to void any transfers of property made by Bundy and to issue a temporary restraining order to prevent him from hindering collection efforts.
St. Luke's also alleges that Bundy is still living at the property he transferred, paying below market rent. The lawsuit further claims that Bundy has transferred or conveyed other assets to prevent St. Luke's from collecting the damages. In response, Bundy asserted in a video that he had sold his home and had nothing for St. Luke's to recover. St. Luke's attorneys argue that if each member of Bundy's organization paid an annual fee of $50, he would pocket more than $3 million per year. St. Luke's is seeking to collect the damages owed by Bundy and has filed the lawsuit to address the alleged fraudulent transfer of assets.
